Let’s talk psychology of creation. Hey friend…

Before I proceed with this letter, I have a question for you.

 

Have you ever been by the (3Bs) boxed, blocked, and broke with an addition of extreme sense of miserable living, no idea as to how to get out of the state and the only thought in your mind is to end it – Your life, career, pursuit of dreams or journey of relevance?

 

The realm a man gets into that everything feels empty, void, and worthless – The urge to push further is gone, the zeal to crave for more is deflated and the motivation to consume new knowledge is completely zero.

 

You’ve been there.

 

  • That state you are overwhelmed with the feelings of not being enough.
  • That moment you start feeling your source of inspiration has ceased.
  • The period you feel you are in a wrong business just because your craft is not giving you the kind of life you want from it.
  • You worry about why you don’t experience your lightbulb moments again as a creative person.
  • You are visited by the thought of not being creative enough.
  • You put in all efforts and expend all your resources on your creation, but with ZERO output – nothing to show for it. 

 

I call that a “Dip Moment” on life’s curve.

 

It is inevitable in the lives of any man willing to get connected to their source to be able to live their “Essence”.

 

Dip moments also mean the low moments of your life where it seems you are short of ideas, no insight to forge ahead or those times when none of your ideas feels new and appreciated as they are expected to be.

 

You are not obsolete as you think, but your curation and creations are lacking novelty.

 

Creativity is simply bringing newness to what has been – giving clarity or another layer of understanding to a phenomenon.

But to operate in that realm and make every part of your entry into the public space attention grabbing, you need to learn that the greatest and most celebrated things of life are not the craziest things or unknown knowledge…

 

…but rather the simplest things that do not make it to the awareness of the public but are already living rent-free in the consciousness of the creators that require the periodic down time or dip moments of those creators to unlock it. 

 

When they successfully unlock it, they have their lightbulb moments and the world calls them genius, or creative juggernauts – They become celebrated just because they have cracked the code again.

 

I will be referencing the great work of Austin Kleon—His masterpiece, “Steal Like An Artist”

 

I liken what I call “Dip Moments” to what he calls “Productive Procrastination” in his work.

 

“Practicing Productive Procrastination“ is the willingness of an artist to accept boredom as a state where new ideas find their way into their minds – by simply taking out time off their work to do nothing and enjoy the stillness of the mind or to actively engage themselves in crazy chores like washing of dishes, sweeping of the floor, or ironing of their shirts or simply doing nothing…

 

To simply put it, you have to get lost and free yourself to mess around.

 

What you are doing at that moment is to get your mind off the work as the human mind gets bored and feels stuck after getting too familiar with a particular phenomenon.

 

Just like you need constant clearing of cache and cookies of a computer to have refreshed experience, you need constant refreshing of the mind when creating what will be considered a masterpiece and attract eyeballs in the public space as a creative.

 

Spending hours on a work all because you have a deadline or timestamp to it without loosening your mind to absorb new experiences is like setting yourself up for a blockage of mind and battle with the wall…

 

For your mind to have a full sense of originality in your thought process, it needs reflections of diverse ideas from different happenings.

 

Everything we do, every action we take, every step we take, every dream we picture, every goal we set and every journey we embark on is nothing but an idea from the library or archive of our individual experiences.

 

You think you want to be great at what you do? You have probably seen a higher version of yourself in a man – One already living your dreams as his reality.

 

The thought of breaking the ceiling in your creation that you carry in your mind manifests as a result of the fact that your eyes can see the possibility of it in other people’s journey.

The people who claim to experience blockage in the dispensation of unique value in their creation are people who spend 80% of their time on creation and the remaining 20% on perfecting their work, still creation.

 

They are always sounding average every time, not because they lack genius ideas, but their ideas lack novelty because they spend all their time on creation – They end up in an autopilot mode in their work.

 

Life celebrates the creation of new experiences, not a replica of what has been.

 

Although, what has been is the root of every newness, but a switch of perception of what has been is what is celebrated.

 

The Orchestrator of Creativity – Why Life Doesn’t Give a Fuck About Efforts

 

In the earliest days of doing marketing, I used to approach marketing practices for any business I was hired and paid to work on by tapping into the plug and play approach popularized by some marketing leaders that I used to listen to when I started out in the digital marketing space.

 

I would source for the most performing social media adverts and google will bring me some suggestions from various blog posts aimed at dissecting them to know why they succeeded. Is it the creative, the design copy, the headline, the body of the ads copy, or the copy on the sales or landing pages that is doing the magic?

 

I would copy them regardless of the industry or product they were written for and I would do what I call plug and play, which is the lowest resolution of creativity.

 

Then you would see me complaining about why they failed to deliver, making claims that they were the best practice simply because I created a replica of what is considered being the best practice. 

 

For those who are not familiar with Digital Marketing, it is simply a digital approach to marketing that enables businesses at any level to scale faster to reach audience beyond their physical reach and attract businesses beyond their borders leveraging digital tools like website, social media, search Engine (Google, Yahoo), Billboard (Electronic or traditional) among others.

 

But behind every advert you see promoting a cause or business, there is a series of creative and mental work that goes into it.

 

Just like many people out there who beat themselves up for not seeing results of their efforts despite its volume and how intensified they are in getting involved in their dealings

 

You could tick all the boxes as a creative, all you care, and still find it difficult to make an easy entry into the market you are willing to serve.

 

Creativity does not mean too much of struggle and countless burnt candles but rather a switch up in the scheme of things

 

What switched up my results and transformations I bring to businesses that contact me to take charge of their digital space is simply what I call the most neglected unit of every creation process.

An invention as you know it is nothing but a cluster if the tiniest of it cannot be clearly understood, defined and duly appreciated by people who are witnessing it – it is a confusion of the past brought to fore to continue jailing people of today.

 

If your creation at any level does not appeal to the sense of understanding of even the lowest individual of the sect of the market that you choose to serve, you are going to face outright rejection at the point of launching it no matter how voluminous your input is; the universe doesn’t care.

 

Creator of anything worthwhile captures the mind, not the sight.

 

  • They speak the language of their supposed audience.
  • They present their offerings in the light their audience would like to receive it.
  • They stay and dwell in the thick of the pains of their audience
  • They show up on the platforms they’re most like going to be noticed.


In the media industry, the creators in that space focus on the minds and understanding of their audience by chronologically arranging their content to retain their new catch and sustain the lifetime value of the ones they already have locked in their database.

 

What is the reason for needing to have mastery over people prior to creating? 

 

That was the question I was confronted with when the reality of the incessant failure in my craft hit me the hard way.

When I used to create, I created as though I was targeting machines, or creating to address my own pains. This was why I kept on hitting the walls, fighting my own shadow.

 

I thought I was playing the rules because I was modeling what was said to be true without understanding;

 

  • The reason their creation took the shape?
  • Why did they choose their approach & marketing strategy?
  • What were their primary goals among other things that make their offerings appealing to HUMAN conditions?

 

The idea is not to completely get lost in the process of creation, but rather to allow your mind to find meaning outside creation, for it not to get off the radar of inspiration because it’s too domiciled in the familiar instead of being exposed to the unfamiliar things…
